Ingredients
1 pound ground beef.
1 onion, diced.
1 green bell pepper, diced.
2 cloves garlic, minced.
1/2 cup beef broth.
2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce.
Salt and black pepper, to taste.
4 hoagie rolls or hamburger buns.
4 slices provolone cheese.
Optional toppings: sliced mushrooms, hot peppers, or additional cheese.
Preparation
Step 1
Brown ground beef in a large skillet over medium heat until no longer pink. Drain excess fat.
Step 2
Add diced onion, green bell pepper, and minced garlic to the skillet with the beef. Cook until vegetables are softened, about 5-7 minutes.
Step 3
Season with salt and black pepper. Pour in beef broth and Worcestershire sauce. Stir and simmer for another 5-7 minutes.
Step 4
Split hoagie rolls or hamburger buns and lightly toast them under the broiler or in a toaster oven until golden brown.
Step 5
Spoon hot beef mixture onto the bottom halves of the buns, dividing evenly. Top each with a slice of provolone cheese.
Step 6
Place assembled sandwiches under the broiler for 1-2 minutes, until cheese is melted and bubbly. Watch closely to prevent burning.
Step 7
Remove from oven and add optional toppings if desired.
Step 8
Place top halves of buns on sandwiches. Serve hot with favorite sides like fries or coleslaw.
