Ingredients
Filling
1 pound ground beef or Italian sausage

1 small onion, finely chopped

2 cloves garlic, minced

1 can (14.5 oz) diced tomatoes, drained

1 cup ricotta cheese

1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese

1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese

1 egg, beaten

1 teaspoon dried basil

1 teaspoon dried oregano

Salt and pepper to taste

Pasta and Topping
1 box jumbo pasta shells

2 cups marinara sauce

1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese

Fresh tomatoes, diced

Fresh basil or parsley, chopped (optional)

Green onions, chopped (optional)

Instructions
Step 1: Prepare the Pasta
Cook Pasta Shells:

Boil a large pot of salted water. Add the jumbo pasta shells and cook according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.

Step 2: Prepare the Filling
Cook Meat:

In a large skillet, cook the ground beef or Italian sausage over medium heat until browned.

Add the chopped onion and minced garlic, cooking until the onion is soft and translucent. Drain any excess fat.

Mix Filling:

In a large bowl, combine the cooked meat mixture with the ricotta cheese, shredded mozzarella cheese, grated Parmesan cheese, beaten egg, dried basil, dried oregano, salt, and pepper.

Mix well until all ingredients are fully incorporated.

Step 3: Assemble the Dish
Stuff Shells:

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Spread 1 cup of marinara sauce on the bottom of a large baking dish.

Stuff each cooked pasta shell with the meat and cheese mixture and place them in the baking dish, open side up.

Top and Bake:

Pour the remaining marinara sauce over the stuffed shells. Sprinkle with additional shredded mozzarella cheese. Cover with aluminum foil and bake for 25 minutes.

Finish Baking:

Remove the foil and bake for an additional 10 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and golden.

Step 4: Serve
Garnish and Serve:

Remove the baking dish from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes. Garnish with diced fresh tomatoes, chopped green onions, and fresh basil or parsley if desired. Serve warm.
