Ingredients:
For the Apple Filling:
6-7 large apples, peeled, cored, and sliced (a mix of sweet and tart varieties)
1/2 cup granulated sugar
2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1 tablespoon lemon juice
For the Crisp Topping:
1 cup old-fashioned oats
1/2 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 cup brown sugar, packed
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and diced
Instructions:
Preheat the Oven:
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
Prepare the Apple Filling:
In a large bowl, combine the sliced apples with granulated sugar, flour, ground cinnamon, ground nutmeg, and lemon juice. Toss until the apples are evenly coated.
Assemble in a Deep Dish:
Transfer the apple mixture to a deep baking dish, spreading it out evenly.
Prepare the Crisp Topping:
In a separate bowl, combine the oats, flour, brown sugar, and ground cinnamon. Add the diced cold butter.
Using your fingers or a pastry cutter, work the butter into the dry ingredients until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
Top the Apples:
Sprinkle the crisp topping evenly over the apple mixture in the baking dish.
Bake:
Bake in the preheated oven for about 40-45 minutes or until the topping is golden brown, and the apples are tender and bubbly.
Cool Slightly and Serve:
Allow the deep dish apple crisp to cool slightly before serving. Serve it warm, preferably with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
Optional: Caramel Drizzle (Optional):
For an extra indulgence, you can drizzle warm caramel sauce over the top before serving.
