Cheese Twisted Bread

Ingredients:
For the Dough:
3 cups all-purpose flour
2 teaspoons active dry yeast
1 tablespoon sugar
1 teaspoon salt
1 cup warm water (110°F/45°C)
2 tablespoons olive oil
For the Cheese Filling:
2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese (or cheddar, or a mix of your favorite cheeses)
2 tablespoons melted butter
1 teaspoon garlic powder (optional)
1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
Fresh herbs (like parsley or thyme) for garnish (optional)
Instructions:
Step 1: Prepare the Dough
Activate the yeast: In a small bowl, mix warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until the yeast becomes foamy.
Mix the dough: In a large mixing bowl, combine flour and salt. Add the activated yeast mixture and olive oil. Stir until a dough forms.
Knead the dough: Transfer the dough to a lightly floured surface and knead for about 8-10 minutes, or until the dough is smooth and elastic.
Let the dough rise: Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
Step 2: Prepare the Cheese Filling
In a small bowl, mix the melted butter with garlic powder (if using).
Grate the cheeses and set them aside.
Step 3: Assemble the Cheese Twisted Bread
Once the dough has risen, punch it down and roll it out on a floured surface into a large rectangle (about 12×18 inches).
Brush the dough with the melted butter and garlic mixture.
Evenly sprinkle the shredded mozzarella (or cheese of choice) and Parmesan over the dough.
Step 4: Shape the Twisted Bread
Fold and slice: Fold the dough in half lengthwise to cover the cheese. Using a sharp knife or pizza cutter, slice the dough into 1-inch wide strips.
Twist: Take each strip and gently twist it, then place the twisted strips onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
Let it rise again: Cover the twisted bread with a kitchen towel and let it rise for another 15-20 minutes.
Step 5: Bake the Twisted Bread
Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
Bake the cheese twists for 15-20 minutes, or until golden brown and the cheese is melted and bubbly.
Step 6: Serve
Remove from the oven and let cool for a few minutes before serving.
Garnish with fresh herbs like parsley or thyme, if desired.
Tips:
Cheese Choices: Try mixing different cheeses like gouda, fontina, or pepper jack for varied flavors.
Add-ins: You can add chopped olives, sun-dried tomatoes, or cooked bacon for extra flavor.
Dipping Sauces: Serve with marinara sauce, ranch, or garlic butter for dipping.
