Ingredients:
For the Biscuits:
- 2 cups all-purpose flour* 1 tablespoon baking powder* 1/2 teaspoon salt* 1/2 teaspoon baking soda* 6 tablespoons cold butter, cubed* 3/4 cup buttermilk
For the Sausage Gravy:
- 1 pound breakfast sausage* 1/4 cup all-purpose flour* 3 cups whole milk* 1/2 teaspoon black pepper* 1/4 teaspoon salt* 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
Instructions:
- Preheat the oven to 425°F.
- In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, and baking soda.
- Cut in the cold butter with a pastry cutter or your fingers until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Stir in the buttermilk just until a soft dough forms.
- Turn the dough onto a lightly floured surface and gently knead 4–5 times. Pat it about 3/4-inch thick and cut out biscuits.
- Place the biscuits on a baking sheet and bake for 12–15 minutes, until golden brown.
- Meanwhile, cook the sausage in a large skillet over medium heat, breaking it into small pieces as it browns.
- Sprinkle the flour over the sausage and stir for 1–2 minutes.
- Slowly pour in the milk while stirring constantly. Cook for 5–7 minutes, until the gravy thickens.
- Season with black pepper, salt, and garlic powder.
- Split the warm biscuits in half and spoon the sausage gravy generously over the top.
