Ingredients:
2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 3/4 cup cold unsalted butter, cubed
- 1 cup cold buttermilk
- 2 tablespoons melted butter, for brushing
Instructions:
- Preheat the oven to 450°F (230°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar.
- Cut the cold butter into the flour mixture using a pastry cutter or your fingertips until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Pour in the cold buttermilk and stir just until the dough comes together.
- Turn the dough onto a lightly floured surface and gently pat it into a rectangle.
- Fold the dough over itself 3–4 times to create flaky layers.
- Pat the dough to about 1-inch thickness and cut out biscuits using a biscuit cutter.
- Place the biscuits on the prepared baking sheet with the sides touching for softer edges.
- Bake for 12–15 minutes, or until the tops are golden brown.
- Brush the hot biscuits with melted butter immediately after removing them from the oven.
- Serve warm with butter, honey, jam, or sausage gravy.
